About Debora – Hi, my name is Debora. I am from a little island in South Italy called Ischia. As little as it is, I decided to expand my knowledge about the world in my twenties. Therefore, I moved to Sydney, Australia, for about two years. This experience helped me learn about different cultures, languages, and religions and how these influence people’s behaviours differently. After this extraordinary adventure, I moved to the Netherlands to start my bachelor’s in Psychology at Maastricht University. These years taught me how challenging moving to a different country and studying in a foreign language is with all life’s obstacles.
Once I was done with my bachelor’s, I was ready to move to a bigger and more multicultural city. In September 2021, I moved to Rotterdam, where I am pursuing my Master’s in Clinical Psychology at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. Here, I learned that it is not the situation itself that causes distress but the interpretations and meanings we make in a situation. Therefore, the connections between thoughts, emotions and behaviours are essential to tackle and pay attention to. This is also known as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
Psychology has always been interesting for me. For as long as I can remember, I wanted my career to be dedicated to helping people. Because I believe that each of us is more than just the sum of every high and every low. Indeed, people can learn new skills with the correct tools to live fulfilling lives. I know from experience that therapy can sometimes be challenging because many emotions are at play. However, I also learned that with trust, compassion, empathy and collaboration, therapy can help you enjoy life. To do this, it is important that you feel understood and listened to without judgments, where your needs are the priorities. From here is all about working together and helping you in the best way possible.
