Ciao! My name is Emma, and I am an Italian expat living in the Netherlands. Born in Italy, I also briefly lived in Germany and Canada. My father comes from Belgium, and I have family all over the world, from Bosnia to Chile, which allowed me to grow up in a multicultural environment.
My primary form of approach is through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. My work will focus on my patients’ thoughts and behavior, also by using tailored CBT tasks. A focal point of my approach further entails an investigation of the patient’s personal history -from childhood to the present time- to recognize possible patterns. Therapy, for me, is an instrument to guide people to achieve a fulfilling life. Our role as psychologists is to guide our patients, adapt to their needs and goals, make them feel validated, and eventually break negative patterns by identifying and working on their source.
My experiences abroad and my multicultural family helped me attain an open-minded stance. The desire to positively impact others’ lives is what made me choose this career. Being an expat myself, I understand how difficult it is to find a safe space where you feel understood. Having always been surrounded by internationals, I feel like that is where I belong, so my goal is to create a comfortable environment for us foreigners.
About Emma – outside of my work, I enjoy watching classic movies, reading, good food, and good company. Living in the Netherlands has also allowed me to discover a new passion: cycling!
