Anxiety affects 4% of the global population, making it one of the most common mental disorders, and it comes in different forms. It all falls under the same category, whether it is social phobia, specific phobia, post-traumatic stress disorder, general anxiety, obsessive thoughts and compulsions, or similar. Anxiety is an illness that affects both the mind and the body and thus calls for clinical and therapeutic treatment. Our approach primarily includes cognitive-behavioral techniques, but we also exercise mindfulness and acceptance techniques. First, we focus on identifying the problem and how it affects the client’s life. Then, we work together with the client to learn how to deal with the problem and engage in alternative healthier coping skills. This can be in the form of confronting one’s fear or restructure dysfunctional cognitions.
